Digi-Die
Date
Fall 2024
The Digi-Die is a IoT device produced as part of a class project. The idea is simple, tabletop role playing games (TTRPGs) have been expanded to online platforms, allowing players to play across distances. The dice rolling mechanics of these games has been replaced by digital animations and computer RNG. The Digi-Die seeks to bring the physical satisfaction of rolling a die to these online platforms.
The Digi-Die uses a compact stack of development electronics to keep the die small. When the internal accelerometer detects a sharp movement of the die, like being rolled, it will activate and wait for the roll to end, where it will send gyroscopic data to the included ESPC3 board to determine which number was rolled. This number is then sent to a connected device via BLE.
