Gon' Fishin'

Gon' Fishin' is a computer application targeted towards German users wanting to travel to Australia for a fishing trip. It includes many features, providing information on the different regions of Australia, what fish can be found there, and the fishing regulations associated with each region. The goal is to help users plan a trip and/or to be more informed about the trip they are taking.

One of the challenges of this project was the cultural research. We originally started by targeting Swedish users, and researched Swedish culture to make design decisions. Swedish culure involves a love for the outdoors, so we thought they would be the perfect user group. Unfortunately, part of the project was user testing with the targeted user base. We were unable to get in contact with any native Swedes, and therefore we had to pivot. We chose German users due to their similar cultural values with nature, as well as our connections to German people for testing. One of the biggest design decisions we made based on our German users was to emphasize the regulations as they were very interested in that information.

Overall, the app was structured around a very clear and linear path to the desired information and was styled with a font and color palette that matched the natural aesthetic that fishing has.
